The Great Drama of Jesus: A life of Christ for Teens is the result of Father Galenone’s classroom experience of teaching religion to junior high school students at St. William’s in Baltimore. He undertook the project of writing this book at the insistence of parents, who could not understand how religion had suddenly become the favorite subject of their son or daughter. The material in the follow-up discussions has been upgraded to be in keeping with a more mature student (10th through 12th grade).
“During the past several years, I have become acutely aware of the religion illiteracy surrounding our youth. Nut I do not find fault with them; for they have been subjected to a superficial treatment of doctrine and an exaggerated emphasis on personal development and experience. Still, they continue to thirst for the truth– a thirst which can be quenched only with the strong wine of the pure Gospel message, not with some diluted version that even an agnostic can accept.
To remedy this sad situation was the underlying factor that prompted the present work. Using fifty short scenes from the life of Christ as a springboard for discussion, I have attempted to present a clear and concise picture of what the Church teaches in matters doctrinal and moral.”
