When Baby Jesus was born in Bethlehem’s stable, this Littlest Angel was not among the heavenly Host heralding His arrival to the shepherds. Watching from Heaven, all the angles were in awe of the miracle of Christ’s birth and each angel had a gift for the Newboen King. The Littlest Angel always knew what her gift would be, and she waited for her oppertunity to present it.
Like all babies, Baby Jesus had to learn when to sleep. Sometimes Jesus would awake at night whle Mary and Joseph and the stable animals slept nearby. The Littlest Angel kept watch and when Jesus awoke before He could utter a single cry, the Littlest Angel would appeat to Him with a book in her hands. She would sit beside the manger and read stories. The Littlest Angel’s stories delighted the Baby Jesus. He would listen with rapt attention until His eyes grew just too heavy. As she read, the Littlest Angel would watch for sleep yo come to the Baby Jesus. When it did, she would quietly close her book and wait nearby for the next opportunity to share her stories again.
